If you’re on a Higher Ed programme (HNC/D, Foundation Degree, BSc) at Oaklands it’s probably because you want to improve your job prospects. Of course, it’s not just having additional qualifications that will improve your job prospects. 1 in 6 job seekers credit social networks with finding their current job. According to a survey taken last summer (the polling company, inc., 2012) 88% of all job seekers are using at least one social networking site, while 64% are on two social networks and 44% have three social networking profiles. 23% of job seekers have been asked for social media info in job interviews. You’ve probably noticed that OakHE uses four of the most popular social networking sites (WordPress, Twitter, Linked In and Facebook). If you’re a successful multi-tasker then managing four social networks is probably no problem, but if you’re not, then here are a couple of recommendations to help you manage your social networks and start building your social profile in preparation for finding that fantastic job when you complete your studies.
If you’re never without your phone then ensure you have the Twitter, Linked In and Facebook Apps installed. To manage all your profiles at once try using a social media management program. I recommend Hootsuite, which allows you to manage up to five social profiles and works on a range of mobile devices or on PCs/laptops etc.
